Gameplay Overview
Structured Game Modes
Half Life Elite supports eight distinct modes:
Free For All
Standard HLDM format. Certain maps may include Opposing Force weapons.
Teamplay
Team based version of Free For All.
Duel
Structured 1 versus 1 rounds. The losing player enters spectator mode until their next turn. Optional time limits regulate each duel.
CTF, Capture the Flag
Classic flag capture mode. Points are awarded for captures, defensive saves, and kills. Supports two or more teams.
Tournament
Sequential duel format. Winners remain active and face the next challenger in rotation.
CTP, Capture the Point
Teams capture and hold control points. Points accumulate over time for each controlled point. Each captured flag increases the team’s maximum health, creating escalating advantage through territorial control.
Action
Free For All format in which players spawn fully equipped with weapons and long jump capability.
Team Action
Team based adaptation of Action mode.
LMS, Last Man Standing
No respawns. The final surviving player scores the round. Entities are removed during play and reset between rounds.
Team LMS
Team based version of Last Man Standing.
These modes collectively broaden HLDM beyond pure frag accumulation into structured competitive formats and objective driven play.
Competitive Functionality
Half Life Elite incorporates features designed to improve team coordination and match awareness:
-
Radar system
-
Waypoint based teammate tracking
-
Team status indicators
-
Observer functionality
-
Integrated voting system
These features elevate team based modes by improving situational awareness and communication.
Interface and Accessibility
The mod introduces a redesigned in game VGUI menu system. Players may cast votes without memorising console commands. Many previously console dependent actions are accessible through graphical menus.
Additional client side options are available at launch, including:
-
Weapon bind configuration
-
Long jump alias integration
-
Customisable options menu
A refined autoexec configuration reduces the need for manual console adjustments. The intention is to provide a fully playable competitive environment without requiring players to engage in extensive configuration.
Weapon and Gameplay Adjustments
Although the mod does not radically redesign the weapon system, it includes:
-
Minor weapon balance adjustments
-
Bug fixes
-
Optional inclusion of Opposing Force weapons on selected maps
These adjustments aim to enhance fairness and precision rather than transform combat identity.
Match Structure and Flow
Modes such as Duel, Tournament, and LMS remove continuous respawning. Eliminated players enter spectator mode and await the next round or rotation.
Objective modes such as CTF and CTP introduce structured scoring systems beyond simple frag counts. In CTP, control of points not only generates score over time but increases maximum health, reinforcing map dominance.
The combination of elimination formats and objective control modes gives Half Life Elite a far more organised competitive structure than default HLDM.
