Bubble 25 : More Weapons?

Half-Life Opposing Force Weapons

The latest addition to Bubble 25 is something I had not originally planned on doing. I have decided to bring the Opposing Force weapons into the game. I had actually been experimenting with new and cutomised weapons separately over the summer, mainly to test what the DLL was capable of doing. My initial plan was to bring over just the spores and Barnacle Grapple, but one thing led to another and I eventually ended up adding the rest of the weapons as well. I am conscious that players will need to download the additional files when they first join the server, which I know can be off putting for some people. Hopefully the FastDL does its job and keeps the process as quick and seamless as possible.

I honestly do not think I have properly played Opposing Force since around 1999 or 2000, but I do remember the weapons being great fun. Rather than throwing even more weapons into every Half-Life map using the built in weapon and item spawner, I have decided to keep them exclusive to Opposing Force maps.

I have added the standard Opposing Force multiplayer maps to the server, along with a few others, and these will be the only maps where the additional weapons appear. I think this gives the Opposing Force maps a bit of their own character without turning every map in Bubble 25 into a giant collection of weapons from across GoldSrc.

The weapon menu is admittedly starting to get a little crowded, although this should only really be noticeable on Opposing Force maps. If you regularly use a particular weapon, you can always bind it directly to a key instead.

For convenience, I have listed each weapon and its command below:

weapon_knife Knife
weapon_pipewrench Pipe Wrench
weapon_grapple Barnacle Grapple
weapon_eagle Desert Eagle
weapon_m249 M249 SAW
weapon_sniperrifle Sniper Rifle
weapon_sporelauncher Spore Launcher
weapon_shockrifle Shock Rifle
weapon_displacer Displacer

The Desert Eagle includes its laser sight, while the Displacer brings its enormous energy projectile and teleporting ability. The Spore Launcher and Shock Rifle are also incredibly deadly in their own way if you know how to use them. I have purposely left out the penguin grenades, as there really isn’t enough slots left to put them into the game. I don’t recall ever really using them anyway.
